Purpose of Company
Icelandair Cargo is a low asset company, leasing in aircraft and buying capabilities from other sources. The freighters are placed on Icelandair´s air operating certificate and crews are leased from Icelandair. Warehousing, cargo handling and much of cargo sales is outsourced.
History
Icelandair Cargo was established as an independent company within Icelandair Group (then Flugleiðir) in late 1999, but cargo transport had been a part of the core business of Icelandair from its foundation as an airline. Icelandair Cargo is the largest airfreight service provider in Iceland. The Managing Director of Icelandair Cargo is Pétur J. Eiríksson.
Operation
The company bases its business on scheduled services between Iceland, Europe and North America supported by charters and wet leases (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance). In addition to marketing and selling space on its own freighters Icelandair Cargo sells the belly space on Icelandair´s passenger aircraft.
