The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) recently confirmed that the Icelandair Technical Services (ITS) application for certification for design had been approved. ITS is the first and only Icelandic company to be certified by an international organization in the field of flight engineering and design. The application and approval process has taken nearly 2 years. During that time period, the EASA experts have done an extensive review of the Icelandair Technical Services and its design capabilities. The first projects after certification will involve electronics and interior design in airplanes.

The engineering and design work that the EASA certification covers is conducted by the engineering division of ITS. Currently the engineering division has 20 staff members, engineers, technical engineers and additional support staff.
Icelandair Technical Services core business is to provide Icelandair Group and its subsidiaries with high quality maintenance and technical services. The company also provides services to aircraft which land in Keflavík, heavy maintenance in Keflavík and technical services for several operators. The company is also active in maintenance at several locations abroad. This new certification will increase the opportunities to serve new markets.
Jens Bjarnason is the managing director of Icelandair Technical Services and Arnor Thorhallson is the director of the engineering division.
